BARNSTAPLE is one of the oldest and most attractive market towns in Devon, nestling on the river Taw. Around almost every corner there are pretty little alleys, streets and courtyards to be explored as well as great high street shopping and the sophisticated under cover Green Lanes shopping Centre. Visit the unique Butchers Row and historic Pannier Market which has a variety of stalls ranging from general goods, antiques, local crafts to home made produce.
Local sporting activities are close at hand and there are splendid opportunities for surfing and swimming at the nearby beaches of Saunton, Croyde, Putsborough and Woolacoombe. There are also several golf courses located in the area.
For garden enthusiasts The RHS Rosemoor Garden at Great Torrington, the National Trust's Arlington Court, Marwood Hill and Tapeley Park are only a short drive away.
Bideford, Westward Ho, Clovelly, Ilfracombe, Lynton and Lynmouth are all within easy driving distance. The unspoilt beauty of Exmoor is only a 12 mile drive.
